An homage to how I remember modern art as a child.

Truly an experiment in what you can do with available light, and extremely high camera ISO. This image was shot at 6400 ISO. Something unheard of even a few years ago. We were walking down the street and this location just smacked me upside the head. Thank goodness I had my camera in the trunk!

From a shoot I did today. I like how a little story seems to be lurking down here. This is also my very last shoot at my old space. Farewell.

Every once in a while I’ll post something on Project1 which is pretty commercial, but that speaks to me on a certain level. It’s interesting to me that, though similar to my entry on the 19th, with the addition of make-up and cleaner lighting, this image looks so commercial.

Today I worked with the beautiful Larkin, and for a woman who showed up with no make-up and purple hair, it was incredible to see her transform into the beauty you see here. I’ve said it before; There is something so powerful about a bare bones close-up portrait. It’s all in the eyes.

This image is fun for a couple of reasons, the first being that it was taken in almost pitch black. When shooting day for night it’s always exciting to see the results. The other being that when I was in my teens, and first experimenting with film stocks, I would periodically play with infrared film. It was always a little scary because you have to load in total darkness or it would fog. Trying to load my camera while it was stuffed in a pillowcase was always an adventure!

I always wanted to travel to Africa and take some of those classic infrared scenics. Until then I’ll just fake it in LA.

Super stoked with the quality of gold in this image. There’s something about achieving this color in my images that always excites me!
